A 16,16,16 fertilizer is a well balanced choice for some houseplants. However, two things to consider are the strength of the formula and the needs of the plant.
Often, houseplant fertilizer blends contain a lower concentration of chemical nutrients (2-2-2 for example) because they are often grown in small containers where the fertilizers can be concentrated and it is very easy to overdo it. Be aware of this and feed at half strength by diluting the fertilizer in water.
To the second point, if you are fertilizing a flowering plant like an African Violet, you may want to select a fertilizer that has a different ratio (2-8-4 for example) that favors flower development.
