Mystery of little cut ends of Aspen trees #644397
Asked June 01, 2020, 3:12 PM EDT
For the past couple weeks at least twice a day a pile of little shorn off ends of our Aspen trees are on the ground. At first we thought it was squirrels but none are in sight when this happens. We are used to some here and there every year but this seems quite a bit. Otherwise the trees look healthy. I was wondering is it some kind of insect and should I be worried? Thank you for your time.

Hello,
I can't tell on the photo if it's a clean cut. If it is, then it's squirrels. They do this. Some of the trees in the Populus genus will also self-shed some branches. But the end is more round like it just "fell off".
