How do I revive a lackluster pecan tree? #644123

We purchased a home with a mature pecan tree (80-100 ft) in the backyard last fall. The tree produced many nuts but they were all small and lacked any substantial "meat." I gather zinc is essential to proper nut development, but it's not clear when, how, or how much to apply. Would appreciate an expert's insights.

Hi- pecan is a beautiful tree. Unfortunately, it is rare for trees growing in MD to produce good-sized nuts consistently. There are many possible reasons for this, including micronutrient deficiencies in the soil. Please read this thorough treatment of pecan issues from Clemson U.:
