Does my tree have a fungal issue? Most of the leaves have black spots. Looks like a sugar maple

Expert Response
Thank you for your question. This appears consistent with a set of symptoms referred to as anthracnose. In maples, this is the result of certain fungal infections that are common during cool and wet spring weather. Treatment is not generally recommended for established shade trees with these symptoms. The problem is not likely to threaten the life of an otherwise healthy tree. Removal of the diseased leaves after they fall amy be helpful in the long-term management of the condition.
