I have three peony plants that are usually thriving. I've just inspected them and have found some new buds that are black and shriveled and also some leaves that are curling? Can you identify what's going on and what my next steps should be going forward from here, the end of May? The whole plant doesn't look unhealthy at this point, as there are a lot of healthy buds and leaves and flowers are starting to bloom.

Hello,
What percent of the plants is showing these symptoms? What exposure are the peonies? Could those leaves and buds have been subjected to recent freezing weather in April and early May?
This is probably linked to cultural conditions and/or the environment. I don't think it's a disease or insects--if the damage bothers you, simply cut it out.

Thank you. Not a lot of the plant is damaged. Yes, there was a big dump of snow late in the season and parts of the plant may have been frozen. That's probably it.
