About 6 weeks ago I planted 3 beautiful, lush frost free gardenia bushes
(Gardenia jasminoides ‘Frost proof’). All was well until about 10 days ago when some leaves turned yellow and some have black spots. Several have fallen off. They have been watered 1x a week and are in mostly sun when we have it. Don’t see any bugs. What did I do wrong and can I fix it? Thanks for your help! Donna

Hi - This looks like decline of some of the older growth (normal) and adjustment to the recent temperature fluctuations/cold spells. This is not a disease or pest issue. It looks like you have good healthy new growth developing. Just give the plant time to adjust and grow as the weather warms up and stabilizes. No treatment is necessary.
Since this is a newly planted shrub, be sure to keep up with watering to ensure good root establishment. Refer to our guidelines for watering, https://extension.umd.edu/hgic/topics/watering-trees-and-shrubs.
