Maple bladder galls #633649

Asked May 10, 2020, 11:08 AM EDT

I have been unsuccessful in getting rid of maple bladder galls. The tree appears to be stunting its growth compared to the others. How do I rid these? Will they spread to the other Maple or Lindens? Thanks

Expert Response

Once galls have established on a tree for a season you will be unable to eliminate them. They will not typically cause damage to the tree. If you are seeing decline in the tree. Depending on the symptoms it may not be related to the galls. Below is a link with further information about galls. If the tree has additional symptoms send additional photos for us to assist with. https://extension.umn.edu/yard-and-garden-insects/insect-and-mite-galls

Thank you for the reply.  The leaves were minature to the past year.  Is there anything that i can do in the late fall/early spring that would rid these?
Thanks

With the galls and size of leaves I would suggest you call a local tree care company and ask to have an arborist take a look at it.
