10-15-5 fertilizer #627094

Asked April 23, 2020, 10:40 PM EDT

Hi, recently attended a Master Gardners seminar. They passed out a brochure titled Garden Maintenance, which was distributed by UW Extension. The brochure suggested a 10-15-5 fertilizer for lawns. I have searched several stores and online, but cannot find the product. Can you let me know where I can obtain this product? If not, is there another formulation that can be used? Thanks for your assistance. Sincerely, Tim Leberman 1308 Marie Lane Cheyenne, Wyoming 82009 <personal data hidden>

Expert Response

Dear Tim, those numbers are just a guideline and can be a bit above or below the first number.  For example; Jirdon's has a lawn fertilizer that is 12-12 -4 and another one 12-9-2 (if I remember correctly).  The important thing is too keep the first number, nitrogen, lower so you don't need to water or mow as much.  An over fed lawn, too much nitrogen, needs a lot more water to keep it going.
Places in Cheyenne; Jax (they moved into the old Sear's store at the mall, they are open) and Riverbend Nursery on Yellowstone.
Nitrogen also needs warm soil and a warm plant 65 degrees for the plant to take up the nitrogen. The safest and best time to fertilize your lawn is around Memorial weekend.

Hope  this helps
