Hoya kerrii problem #626318

Asked April 21, 2020, 7:58 PM EDT

Hello, I have seen that you have answered questions from this plant. Two weeks ago I bought my hoya kerri and today I saw black spots on the leaves and like a white ash. I think it may be botrytis. Could you help me identify the problem? Thanks a lot

Thank you for your question. Could you please provide your location, as well as the environment in which you are keeping the plant? How did the prior owner care for it? Dry area; humid area? Thank you for more information.

Thanks for your fast answer. I am from Uruguay but the plant was produced in Brazil (Sao Paulo). I bought it 10 days ago in a garden store, here in Uruguay and it looks good. The ambient humidity here at this time is between 60 and 85% and I got it indoor.

Thank you. As you can imagine, our Agriculture universities do very little research on plants in other countries (unless they are food crops). Botrytis may be a common problem in your region, but it is not common on houseplants in the States. This article indicates what is: https://hgic.clemson.edu/factsheet/houseplant-diseases-disorders/ Perhaps you can compare your plant’s raised tissue to the diseases mentioned there. I do not know what pathogens exist in your. Country. Beyond that, I would suggest you contact a local horticultural resource. Good luck!
