fuzzy tree seed pod #625346

Asked April 19, 2020, 5:58 AM EDT

I saw these unusual fuzzy pods in a tree branch on a short bridge that NE Conser crosses over Stewart Slough. What type of tree does this belong to?

Benton County Oregon

Thank you for your question. These appear to be those of a Salix magnifica, a willow described here:  https://landscapeplants.oregonstate.edu/plants/salix-magnifica

Once there are leaves, it can be positively identified, but, if the tree is planted near water, we at least have the species, since they love water.  Enjoy!
