My peach tree has a serious bark problem. #625235

I don't know what this is. Please help. My tree is five years old. It's in grass not mulch.

I think this is damage due to an insect - peach tree borer. Here is some information from UK Entomology about this pest. http://entomology.ca.uky.edu/ef200
