Aspirin to prevent tomato blight? #743779
Asked April 11, 2021, 8:09 PM EDT
According to Mother Earth News, dissolving an aspirin in water and spraying it on tomato plants will trigger an immunity response that will help prevent tomato blight. I assume it is nonsense, but people are talking about it online.

Raised bed garden soil #743708
Asked April 11, 2021, 2:36 PM EDT
I've been told that I should purchase raised bed garden soil ( vs. regular garden soil or potting soil) for my raised bed gardens. Is this true?
If yes, should all of the dirt in my raised beds be raised be soil, or can I mix raised bed soil with other soil like potting or regular garden soil (Raised bed soil is more expensive.)
And, after growing season in my raised be gardens, can I keep the same soil for next season and simply add fresh soil or do I need to empty out the entire raised bed containers each season?

When to prune Spirea? #743684
Asked April 11, 2021, 12:47 PM EDT
I have 4 Magic Carpet Spirea that are two years old and have not been pruned yet. I am assuming that now, the beginning of the growing season, would not be the best time to prune them, but I would like to do some pruning and trimming to help them maintain their shape. The shrubs continue to flower throughout the summer. When is the best time to prune them? Thank you. Mike

Raspberry question #743670
Asked April 11, 2021, 10:40 AM EDT
This last Fall I put in a row of eight Canby raspberry plants- bought from a local, reputable nursery. This Spring, seven are doing great, but one is WAY behind. It's alive, has 4 or 5 ,1/2-inch leaves and 2 really small shoots breaking the soils surface close by. Soil is consistent all thru the row, and very good. The others are doing MUCH better- w/ a dozen or more 1-inch-plus leaves, and they LOOK really, really vigorous. Should I be patient with the one, or just go get another one and replace it with a more vigorous plant. Thanks for any advice- MJ

I have a very old white Ash that is growing some small branches with leaves off its main branches but is not appearing to bud otherwise. Is it too early?
