Disease or pest eating Madrona leaves? #623704

Asked April 13, 2020, 2:32 PM EDT

Hello, I have a young Madrone tree that took up residence in our "wild" front yard. Not all, but many leaves look like the attached photo. Is this something to worry about? Thank you for your time and help. Brian

Expert Response

Thank you for your question, Brian. I suspect that your madrone tree has an infestation of root weevils described here:  https://pnwhandbooks.org/insect/hort/landscape/common/landscape-root-weevil

You can find chemical control recommendations on the last page of this Extension table: https://pnwhandbooks.org/sites/pnwhandbooks/files/insect/horticultural-landscape-ornamental/content/...

Hope this is helpful.  Good luck!
