spots on plum tree leaves #622173

Asked April 08, 2020, 10:06 AM EDT

attached are 2 pix of leaf spots on a santa rosa plum tree in its 3rd spring. the leaves look fine as they emerge, but now have these spots. I live on a hillside in western baltimore county. the tree receives full sunlight until 5 or 6 in the afternoon. I have sprayed with a spectral fruit tree spray about 3 weeks ago and again on April 6th. any ideas on what it is and how I can treat it? thank you for your assistance.

Expert Response

The only foliar disease on fruit trees that could show symptoms this early in the season is Peach Leaf Curl (and a related disease on plums). This does not appear to be that disease, and instead looks like damage from a spray itself. This is a list of common fruit diseases in our area:

What pest or disease are you treating the plum for? Prevention is key to controlling diseases before they progress, but making sure the right remedy is being used for the right disease is important. We don't know what product you are referring to that was used; can you tell us its active ingredients? Did the label give guidelines as to when to spray (in terms of weather conditions)?
