Your insect is certainly a beetle. It's a bit more challenging to identify exactly which type. Where was this beetle found?

From the photos, the insect appears to have a gold or metallic luster. If this is correct, there is a good chance it is a Buprestid. Species in the Buprestid are wood-borers, and their larvae can damage to mature trees.
