Need advice on corn snake scale rot #608909

Hello,
I have two 10 year old corn snakes. One of them experienced a small patch of scale rot a few months ago due to me simply being ignorant and using outdated information for taking care of them (humidity was too high!). It's winter right now, and the humidity in my house is almost non-existent. This is causing both snakes to not shed properly. Everything I read says to lightly mist them when they are about to shed. This previous shed, the moisture from the misting seems to have caused a few spots of mild scale rot. I am treating him with providone-iodine (this was prescribed to me during his first case). I clean both of their enclosures often and feed both of them in separate feeding tubs (frozen rats). Should I buy a humidifier for my room to simply raise the humidity without making their enclosures moist? (My other snake has experienced no issues.) I understand how serious scale rot is and am very concerned. Thank you.

Expert Response
Thank you for your question. Yes, if you can use a small humidifier to adjust the humidity of the entire room, this would provide a more consistent moisture level, versus misting the individual enclosure on an intermittent basis.
I hope this information helps, and thank you for contacting Ask an Expert.
