Plant Identification #603954

Asked October 23, 2019, 7:05 PM EDT

Debbie believes this may be lavender but is not sure? It looks similar to thyme.  Is there a way to identify?

Expert Response

Yes, I believe it is, but I'll do some research to see if there is something to identify different varieties without having a flower. Does it have a strong lavender scent when the leaves are crushed? And does it have nature upright growing habit?

She did not have any flowers as she acquired the plant later than blooming season so was not sure it was lavender? It has a scent - but to me not sure if it is lavender - a little off. Leaves have a silver or whitish sheen to them that you can't really see in these pictures.  She currently has them inside growing hut because she thought she had thyme possibly.  She is planning on moving if it is lavender. It does have upright growing habit.

I would stick with Lavender. Thyme has a very small leaf and cource stem. Look at this photo of lavender and I think she will agree. I would suggest keeping it in for a few more days rather than transplanting outside when we are looking at potential single-digit temperatures.
