This guy has me stumped. Is he a Rat? He has a hairy tail and his ears aren't prominent. Is so, what kind. If not what is it Thanks for your help Scott Racer

It looks like a vole to me--they have noticeably shorter tails than mice and rats.  I would guess yours is the prairie vole b/c it looks like it has 5 plantar tubercles on its hind feet.  Thanks for the foot shot and the ruler to show its size!

Voles build tunnels underground and are typically not a problem indoors.  My dog is especially fond of them as I have them tunneling in my back yard at this very moment.  The biggest concern with them is that they sometimes girdle trunks of trees and bushes during the winter if the snow is deep enough for them to tunnel through the snow to a tree.

It's very comforting to know that I'm not dealing with a rat.  Voles I can handle.  I have a Vector Control friend who agreed that's its definitely not a rat.
