Tree Fungus? #600517

Asked October 02, 2019, 4:16 PM EDT

Hello, we recently purchased a home in Blissfield. The tree in our front yard is growing some kind of fungus ( we think ). It was not there when we moved in in June. We are nervous that it may hurt the tree and don't know what to do. Can you please give us some help? I have attached a picture ( I hope ). Thanks so much!!!! Patti Cook

Expert Response

Hello, your tree appears to have northern tooth fungus, Climocodon septentriornale, which frequently affects maple trees. This question has been asked before and I’m attaching the answer from our forester. https://ask.extension.org/questions/598612 For more help on how to treat the tree, I suggest that you contact a certified arborist. Go to http://www.treesaregood.org , the website of the International Society of Arboriculture to find an arborist near you.
