Soil temperatures #599284

Asked September 26, 2019, 9:42 AM EDT

In light of the increased temperatures, when do you think the soil temperature will reach 70 degrees? I’m trying to see if I have enough time to plant grass seeds before applying a preemergent for annua poa.

Expert Response

We don't think that you have time for both.
The best window for seeding grass is until mid-October, only 2 weeks away.
You will definitely need to water and keep it moist for the entire germination period.
The soil is super dry as we have been without rain essentially for 8 weeks now.

You can get a soil temp probe for home use.  The soil temps tend to run in tandem with the temp of the Bay.
