Diseased Hinoki Cypress #598328

Asked September 21, 2019, 5:58 PM EDT

My Hinoki seems to have a disease. The only symptom I can detect is the browning foliage. Is there anything I can do, now or in the Spring, other than removing the dead foliage, to help it? Thanks.

Expert Response

Chamaecyparis obtusa (Japanese cypress, hinoki cypress) normally have a certain amount of interior browning. The oldest foliage drops off as the plant grows. Check that you are caring for the plant well, not over or under watering. I don’t expect you need to do anything else at this time. http://ipm.ucanr.edu/PMG/GARDEN/ENVIRON/lfbrownshed.html
