damage to oak leaves #595270

Asked September 08, 2019, 9:04 AM EDT

My daughter has an oak sapling (approx. 1 yr. old) in her yard. The leaves are being damaged by an insect or possibly deer. There are small dark spots, some tiny holes & what looks like they are being eaten by something. Could this be insect damage? What is the cause of the dark spots?

Expert Response

The oak leaf shows old insect damage and a possible leaf spot.  It is late in the season and the leaves may look a little ratty. No control is recommended.   There should be enough reserves in the root system to put out new growth next spring.  Send us photos if you notice symptoms next season.
