What creature is eating these? #592322

Asked August 26, 2019, 5:28 PM EDT

Later in the season, I found my peas decimated by something...probably a bug, given the munch patterns. Any idea what this is? These were sugar snap peas that I let go longer to get real 'peas' off them. Additionally, we are in classic coastal weather here, so cool and damp is typical. Thanks.

Thank you for your inquiry and accompanying pictures.  Someone has apparently been enjoying your late peas. Sorry it wasn't you!   Caterpillar?  If you see any frass (droppings) on the plant or on the ground under the plant, look for caterpillars.  Other possible insect pests of green and dry peas:

Additionally, earwigs, slugs, snails, birds...

You may also want to be on the lookout for fungal disease, such as 'Pea (Pisum sativum)-Powdery Mildew'.
