Ash Tree decline? What happened and more importantly what can I do? #591995

I think perhaps winter frost damage. Tree is around 28 years old. It’s been under my care for 8 of those years. I used a heavy nitrogen fert late this year on the turf and that wasn’t too bright on my part considering the tree was in stress.

Hi, so sorry to hear about your ash tree. Thanks for the photos. If you could send a photo of the entire tree, that would also be helpful. Certainly, our weather this May could have been a factor. The leaves do appear to have weather damage. Did you have any hail this spring or summer? Do you usually fertilize your lawn with a heavy nitrogen fertilizer? Generally, an older established tree might be able to handle that, but I don't know how heavy the nitrogen application was. I think it might be wise to contact an arborist to come out and look at your tree. We can refer you to ISA Rocky Mountain Chapter for arborists: https://isarmc.org/Public_Resources
