caterpillar/worms invading house #591206

Our neighborhood is plagued with small inch long multilegged worms or caterpillars that are invading our homes. They then die in a curled up position and turn crunchy. What the heck are these things? We are in Southern Maryland, Faulkner to be precise.

Insect populations naturally fluctuate from year to year based on weather. Last year's high rainfall, or perhaps something about the weather this spring, made ideal conditions for millipedes. No reason for alarm. It will pass. Your neighbor is in good company.
