Square stemmed plant in garden #584215

Asked July 28, 2019, 3:41 PM EDT

This has been growing wild in my garden, with many others. Some type of salvia, or wild mint? Is it native, weedy, or invasive? Thank you!

Expert Response

Motherwort (Leonurus cardiaca) is a nonnative perennial weed from Eurasia. Plants create colonies from spreading rhizomes. Non-selective herbicides such as glyphosate can be used, but use cautionto reduce drift to non-target vegetation. https://www.minnesotawildflowers.info/flower/motherwort
