Light colored grass spreading quickly #583931

Asked July 27, 2019, 1:19 PM EDT

This grass in my yard seems to be spreading quickly and it also grows at a faster pace than the rest of my lawn. I’m having trouble identifying it and finding if there’s a way to treat it. I’ve attached two pictures of it. One picture is how it looks in my yard, the other is a picture of some that I pulled out.

This is nutsedge and does grow more quickly than surrounding turf so it is noticeable right away! Since it is a grass chemical control is difficult. We usually recommend hand pulling as the best control and I recommend doing that when the ground is damp in order to get as much of the root as possible. It may take a season or two but if you are persistent you should be able to control it.
