I captured a large brown longhorn beetle (1.5") and I am wondering if I should let it go or destroy it. I live in the Colerain area. Looks like attached photo.

The beetle that you have described and matched to the image is most likely a native longhorn beetle. Most of our native longhorn beetles utilize dead and dying trees in which to raise their young. I see no harm in releasing the beetle back into the wild.
