We returned to our summer home on the beach on Long Island Sound and found hundreds of little black shiny objects ranging in size from a tomato seed to a grapefruit seed in our stored rolls of paper towels and toilet paper.
We found similar things in tissue boxes, but they were uniformly round; some were tan, not black.

Most of that looks like the remains of seeds.. This was probably a stash of food. Look around the area for black, oval shaped material. If you see this, you probably had a mouse stashing and then feeding in the area.
Any indication that the towels and toilet paper was chewed or torn? If so, more than likely a mouse was collecting nesting material as well.
You might want to look in and under dressers and other items which could be used by mice as a nesting area.
