White fungus on Aspen trunk base #581935

Asked July 20, 2019, 4:55 PM EDT

We have a large, mature aspen that has developed a white fungus? at the base of the trunk.  Other than that, the tree seems healthy. Is this something we should be concerned about? Photo attached

Expert Response

The photo you sent could be symptoms of White Trunk Rot. This is a fungus that can negatively effect the Aspen. Below is a link with some information regarding it. I would recommend you contact a local tree care company and have an arborist come and evaluate the tree. https://www.nrs.fs.fed.us/fmg/nfmg/aspen/hlth/specificprob/p6_stem.html
