We have a HUGE catalpa tree that has some kind of creature living in the trunk of it. This will be the 2nd summer. We would like to know what kind of creature it is, how to get rid of it, and whether or not you think the tree can survive this insult. If you can point in the right direction for help, that would be appreciated also,

Thanks for the question.
Without further information it is almost impossible to know what kind of animal is living in the tree. Have you ever seen it? If so, could you please describe it.
From the pictures you sent it doesn't appear that significant damage has been done to the exterior of the tree. It is hard to know what things are like in the interior. If your tree is showing good foliage, it would probably be safe to assume that it will survive.
Thanks for your response about the tree's inhibitor.
