Insect nest identification #577639

Asked July 07, 2019, 5:15 PM EDT

We found these two nests on our porch and are wondering what types of insects created them and how best to remove them.

Montgomery County Maryland

Expert Response

These look like nests of mud dauber wasps. They are beneficial predators of spiders and they are not aggressive like other wasps or yellow jackets.

The mud nests can be scraped off and discarded at night if they are objectionable.
