Burning bush not leafing out #577357

Asked July 06, 2019, 2:34 PM EDT

It's July 6th and our 5 backyard burning bushes (10-12 yr old) this year are barely leafing out. They are all about 6' tall, always been healthy, especially beautiful last fall. Please see photo, any ideas what is wrong? thanks!

Hello. I'm glad you've turned to AaEx.

It's possible that the cold snap we had last January with no snow cover had an effect on some trees, shrubs and plants. We're seeing this problem a lot this spring and summer.  I think I see life at the base of the shrubs which means that your shrubs may still be alive. I would ensure that they get plenty of water even if mother nature does not provide until the ground freezes. Make some pruning decisions next spring if they're still alive. It may take a few years for them to get back to full size.

Good-luck!
