Hello, I live in South Euclid on Birchwold Road.I found several of these “plants” growing in my backyard. I was hoping you could tell me if it is a plant or a weed. I have Hosta growing in that area and thought it might be that or milkweed. Thanks, Gary Mitrisin

After doing some research  you have  a broad-leaved helleborine or the common name a weedy orchid. It is part of the orchid family and is a very invasive weed. There have been  multiple samples submitted to Michigan State University Diagnostic Services. Round up does not effect the plant. You should try using a product that contains 2,4-D in ti. Controlling this  plant is proving to be quite difficult  After consulting several lMSU Extension specialist there is no magic bullet. You can pull this weed, but the rhizomes or roots would allow it to grow more weeds. I know this is not good news, but with some work it can be controlled. Thank you for your question
