Expert Response

Thank you for your question. Working on yellow one. Pink one isn’t a wildflower; it’s a Sweet William. Is the light purple plant a shrub? It helps to put a yardstick, so we know the plant’s size. Thanks!

Yes. I believe the purple plant is a shrub. Attached are two pictures of two different plants next to a yardstick. Note that one side of the yardstick has inches that go up and the other side has numbers that go down.

I am also attaching another picture of the unknown gold-flowered plant.

Regarding your response that the purple flower is joe pye weed, I wonder if you could revisit my question. First, it does not look like the pictures that I found of joe pye weed; second, it has been blooming for at least of couple of months, maybe more and the joe pye weed plants I found bloom in summer.

Attached is a closeup picture of the actual flower.

Confused. Is this the same as the shrub? You initially said all were wildflowers, which Sweet William is not. Exactly where did you find the plant? Thanks.

Yes. This is the same as the purple shrub mentioned n my first note as well as the two pictured with the yardstick. I called them wildflowers because as far as I know they were not planted by the landscapers last year and I had spread many wildflower seeds a year or two earlier, and they are not mentioned on the written plan. The Sweet William and the Wallflowers were not planted by the landscapers either..

There are two of the purple shrubs in my garden, and I have attached two pictures of the other plant, adjacent to Sweet William and Salvia. The plant in question currently does not have the purple flowers, perhaps because it is being shaded by a climbing rose that blooms in June.
