Hello, This season the branches are not blooming leaves, mostly on lower sections almost 1/3 of this 50 foot tree.
I noticed on the lower bark many little holes. see photo.
No other signs of trouble except for this Light green "covering on the dead branches.
Do you have any suggestions. It's been rainy season in my area.
Thank you! You guys helped me with my Japaneese Maple and it's making a comeback. Thank you for that!!!!

Thanks for your question, Stu. We need to start with the tree species. I can’t see the leaves very well; it appears to be an elm. The light green growths are lichens, and not harming the tree. The holes are symptomatic of an insect infestation, but need to know tree species first. Thanks!
Thank you. The insect part dorsnt sound good. Any suggestions what steps to take. Here are close up pictures of the leaves. Thanks again!
My tree species guide lists elders with 8 leaflets in this pattern. My fear is that you have a box elder infestation. I think you should contact your county Extension office about this. Here is their webpage: http://rocklandcce.org/gardening
Good luck!
