Will this fungus eventually kill the tree and if I cut it down do I need to burn the branches in order for it not to spread to other trees? Can it affect other trees other than chokecherries ? Is it contagious ? Is there any saving the tree ?

Pruning can control the fungus.. All infected wood should be
buried, burned or composted.
