There are over 250 species and many more cultivars.
There are a few nurseries in the Jackson - Mason - Howell area that are experts in perennials. http://www.nurserytrees.com/States/state%20Michigan.htm
It may be worth a visit to their nurseries to compare your plant with what they grow or to see if they have seen this variety.
