For the past couple of weeks we have had an explosion of small millipedes. They have been all over the side of the house, congregating around the tires of our vehicles, and in masses in the dirt in the garden. Is there anything that we can do to control/eliminate them?

These are harmless though their populations can go up occasionally and they can make a nuisance of themselves. It's usually weather-related. Since they are a normal part of a healthy environment, you don't want to eliminate them entirely, just manage them.

Since they feed on decaying vegetation, rake up old leaves, etc. around the house. Try to dry the areas up a bit, exposing soil to sun and drying breezes. If you have mulch, rake it back to dry soil somewhat. Just ignore those in the soil. Predators will reduce their numbers.
