Manzanita tree in Central Calif. (Lompoc) #568220

Asked June 07, 2019, 3:17 PM EDT

What is causing yellowing & dropping leaves on the Manzanita tree many years old and in same location?  It gets watered occasionally.. It is located along a hillside in very sandy soil. I noticed dark spots on some leaves!  How do I treat this?

Thank you for your question. It is difficult to diagnose a plant condition without photos and, often, an examination. One possibility is that your tree has contracted Sudden Oak Death, described here: http://calag.ucanr.edu/Archive/?article=ca.v057n01p18 I suggest you take photos of the tree and leaf samples and visit your county Extension office. Here is their webpage: http://cesantabarbara.ucanr.edu/about/contact/ Good luck!
