I planted a Liberty apple tree one month ago. It now appears that the tree is in distress; see three attachments. What can I do to treat the tree? Or should I dig up the tree and return it to the place in which I purchased it? Thank you for your assistance.

Expert Response
How often has it been watered? Where did you purchase it from? Did you bury the root flare (knot at the bottom of the trunk)?
I watered it for two days then it rained the rest of the month so I did not water the tree. I purchased the tree from the Walmart store in ST Cloud MN. I buried the tree per instructions that is the ball of roots on the tree. TKS Patrick
Okay, it looks like it might be rotting a little bit due to excess water. Is the soil around the tree very moist?
Yes it is moist
Yes it is moist
Okay, I would suggest not watering anymore to allow the soil to dry out a little bit. It looks like it is suffering from excess water.
