Red Oak tree with abnormal leaves #562361

Asked May 18, 2019, 10:26 AM EDT

We have a red oak tree that its leaves loose their green color then these light areas dry up and the leaf curls and looks bad. The tree itself has grown extremely well it just could look better. Any suggestions

Expert Response

The condition could be Oak Wilt which does affect Red Oaks but I am uncertain and you need to have the diagnosis confirmed by a certified arborist and the management discussed with them.

Nearby oaks should also be inspected. This is an important disease to identify and control the spread to other trees if the diagnosis is confirmed. You or the arborist should  also inform the DNR.  https://www.dnr.state.mn.us/treecare/forest_health/oakwilt/index.html
