Red Bud tree has a lot of seed pods #559277

Asked May 07, 2019, 5:16 PM EDT

Red Bud tree has a lot of seed pods, several of them are from past years. I was wondering if they could be why my tree has not been blooming or if I should do something about them.

Expert Response

Hello,

Interesting the seedpods were held from last year....they must not have formed the abscission layer last fall. But there's really nothing you can do, except physically remove the seedpods. It could affect flowering, if the seedpods are located where the buds are breaking/flowers emerging.

Thank you for the quick response. I was hesitant to remove the seed pods myself but will go ahead and do that now.
