Bee Balm Leaf #557834

Asked May 02, 2019, 7:26 PM EDT

I did not notice last year that my Bee Balm had a shine on leaf. Is this normal or do I perhaps have a bacterial infection. The plant is in a pot with lots of air circulation and plenty of sunshine.

Expert Response

Thank you for your question. I can see the spots, which may be an indication of powdery mildew (https://apps.extension.umn.edu/garden/diagnose/plant/annualperennial/monarda/leavesspots.html) Although aphids can leave a sticky, shiny secretion, it is unlikely to be that uniform. Are you able to take a leaf to the county Extension office for examination? https://extension.oregonstate.edu/portland Hope they can help. Good luck!
