fungus on red oak #553381

Asked April 15, 2019, 11:06 AM EDT

This fungus(?) on my red oak looks like Endothia. It covers about one foot in length by 3-4 inches in width. The pictures attached are close ups. It appears to only be on one of the branches of my red oak. The branch is only about 2-3 inches in diameter at the trunk and about 15 ft long. Is it Endthia? What should I do about it. Thanks Jo

Expert Response

Our plant pathologist took a look at your photos. This looks like a type of wood decay fungus, possibly Nectria. We recommend pruning out the affected limb.
