Expert Response
A black gum, Nyssa sylvatica, is not the problem that mimosa is with seeds germinating everywhere. It will not do well in soils that are alkaline, doing best in moist, well drained, acidic soils. A beautiful tree! Its fall color is amazing! Wildfire is a cultivar noted for its colorful new growth in the spring.
