A friend asked me to sent this photo to see if you could identify the plant. It located Hughsville Md in Charles County. Thank you,

Good morning! This looks like Mahonia aquafolium, a shrub native to the Pacific Northwest but commonly used here as a landscape plant. It is commonly called just "mahonia" but is also sometimes called Oregon grape or hollygrape because of the similar appearance of the fruit to grapes.
