Black pepper mite infestation in home and on humans #506287

Asked November 29, 2018, 9:27 AM EST

On Aug 12th i noticed bugs crawling on my cell phone and had no idea what they were. 3 days later realized they were from the birds nest outside my apt window. My livingroom was infested by the adults then went into the bedroom and infested that. The manager would not have it exterminated even though she saw a coaster that was infested with these tiny adult bugs. It has been 3.5 months that i have been dealing with this. What I'm confused about and researched is the black pepper mites that are infesting everything. I've seen online that they are from a birds nest too. Were these in that nest as well? I took the nest down and it exploded with 1000s of adult mites in a see through bag. These pepper mites are in my hair and have now infested my body and they are not scabies. Orkin has been in here 3 times and saw nothing. I have given 2 different samples of pepper mites from my hair and body to my Dr that both came back negative?? I was shocked because i am suffering with these things. They crawl down onto my face get into my eyes, nose, ears, mouth, eyelashes. Nothing I've used for me or the apt kills them...I found 6 live adults that were on my granddaughters boots that i threw outside when it 1st started and submitted them to my Dr..Bingo positive result...Then Orkin took a sample 2 weeks ago of the pepper mites and determined that was negative too. How can this be? I thought they were the larva of the adult bird mite but i have not seen any close up pics of a pepper mite that crawl and bite to see exactly why they think they are nothing they've seen??? There is not 1 inch of my body that is not affected by these things. It's disgusting and i try to get the manager to have the exterminator in here. This is Elderly, Handicapped Housing and she won't do anything because of the negative reports ignoring the positive one. These thing reproduce at a ridiculous rate and my fear is not being treated will they travel to other apts? I can't imagine them staying confined to just my apartment. They will be unsuspecting because they would think it is pepper on their counters and not realize it til they are infested in their apts. I have had to throw out carpets, furniture, pillows, box spring and purchase new pillows and bed bug pillow and mattress covers. The eggs are everywhere and when i put my clothes on i suffer because the eggs seep out of the fabric. I'm ready to toss out everything even clothes as they are infested in everything and move out of here and file a lawsuit against her for being negligent letting this go on this long. Does anyone have any info they can provide about pepper mites and exactly what they are? They crawl all over me, they lay eggs everywhere. Are the adults still here and i just cant see them since they come out at night? Sorry for so many questions but i just need to know what these mites are so i can file in court and have the proper ID of these things. Any site that you can direct me to that has knowledgeable info about them i would so appreciate it. I did see that bird mites do cause asthma and i already have a bacterial lung disease and after a lobectomy surgery left me with a serious breathing issue and i certainly do not need asthma on top of that. Please help me!!! Thank You So Much...

Hello,

Identification cannot be made from the photo you have provided due to their blurriness. You are doing the correct things in contacting a pest company for them to look at whatever you are providing under a microscope for proper identification. If they are insects or mites, the pest company can treat accordingly. Have all insects your capture looked at under a microscope for positive identification.
Step you can take are to get rid of the bird nest to the garbage, Wash with soap and water the location and area of the nest where found outside. Inside the home, thorough vacuuming and possibly steam cleaning floors and carpets. Reduce all clutter inside the home to eliminate possible hiding spots Wash bedding in hot water and hot dry in the dryer.
Seek medical help for problems related on your body, and any health issues as we cannot offer any medical advice. Please do tell your doctor of your reaction your are having to these insects or mites.
