thorny weed #499857

Asked November 17, 2018, 2:15 PM EST

When I moved into our new house I thought this thorny plant outside was a neglected rose plant but I'm not thinking it's not because it never flowered. Can you help me identify it. I'm thinking now it's just a thorny weed of some sort but wasn't able to figure out what it was exactly online. It has long stems and grows leaves in 5s. Thanks.

This looks like a type of rose.  Some reasons for no bloom include too much shade, plant age, nutrition, extreme temperatures and improper pruning.
