This is stinging nettle. It is most likely the native one. As you found out so painfully, use heavy gloves and protect your skin when working in areas that may have stinging nettle.
Here are some references with pictures of seedlings, so you can remove them early, and other control options. Even the seedlings can sting, so always use gloves and long sleeves, long pants, and closed shoes when working around this weed.
